Company
Why Chairfirst exists.
Enterprise software solved workflow, data, and analytics — but never institutional authority. Chairfirst is what an operator built to fill that gap, at the moment abundant intelligence made it urgent.
The thesis
Intelligence is becoming abundant; institutional effectiveness is not. The moment agents and people can commit consequential action, the constraint stops being whether something can be done and becomes who may decide, commit, and execute — under what authority, across the enterprise. That authority layer has never existed as software. Chairfirst is building it: the authority-constrained performance control plane that turns human and machine intelligence into governed, measurable, independently-attested performance across the systems an operation already runs.
Identity sprawl created the forcing function for the identity control plane; agentic action is the forcing function for the performance and authority control plane. Chairfirst is to agentic action what the identity control plane is to identity — the layer that was missing.
Why the name
The chair comes first.
In every institution, the chair is the symbol of human authority — the seat from which consequential decisions are made and owned. Intelligence is now becoming abundant, and machines are beginning to act. In that world, human authority matters more, not less. Chairfirst keeps the chair first: the authority to decide, commit, and be accountable stays with the people who hold it — even as the intelligence around them multiplies.
Authority before action, by design.
The founder
John E. Hancock has spent four decades inside operationally complex institutions — since 1985, starting at Boeing. He watched enterprise software solve everything except the thing that actually governs institutional performance: who is authorized to make the consequential call, and how that call gets coordinated and proven across systems. Chairfirst is the company he built to close that gap.
What we've built
Honest about the state of the platform.
- A working platform in production — not a prototype; the first design-partner engagement now in build.
- ~$600K of founder-funded R&D invested pre-raise, and roughly a year of production code built on Oracle Cloud.
- Filed patent-pending families and filing-ready applications over the load-bearing decision-authority mechanisms; planned prosecution and international conversion.
- A repeatable 60-day design-partner pilot — shadow-to-live, measured, and independently attested.
How we operate
Our discipline.
- Governed, not autonomous — AI recommends; a human with the right authority always decides.
- Attested, not asserted — every governed decision is independently attested by Testari, an independent attestation company; we govern, we don’t certify ourselves.
- Honest by default — we claim only what we can prove; no fabricated customers, logos, or certifications.
- We replace nothing — we compose with the identity, credential, and system-of-record platforms our customers already run.
The stage
Chairfirst is an early-stage company raising to establish its channels and a mid-market foothold. We’re direct about where we are — the platform is real and in production; the near-term job is proving the motion repeatably.
Company · Testari
Why Testari exists.
As decisions increasingly involve AI — recommending, coordinating, and acting alongside people — someone independent has to be able to attest what was decided and what happened. Testari bears witness.
The name
Testari is Latin — to bear witness, to attest. It’s the root of testify, testament, and attest. The name is the function.
The thesis
Trust in a decision requires a witness who isn’t the actor. As autonomous and AI-driven action spreads, every consequential decision raises the same question — what was decided, under what authority, on what inputs, and did it happen as claimed? — and no party to the decision can credibly answer it about itself. Testari is the independent, tamper-evident, hardware-rooted record that any counterparty can verify: the trust layer for consequential machine and human decisions.
Independent by design
Testari’s value is its independence: it attests, it doesn’t act; it certifies records, not outcomes; it serves many, beholden to none. That separation is what makes one record trustworthy at once for learning (credible recursive improvement) and for audit (finance, regulators, insurers). Independence isn’t a constraint on the business — it is the business.
The founder & origin
Testari was founded by an operator with decades inside operationally complex institutions, out of a simple observation: the hardest part of trusting a decision is trusting the record of it — and a record you grade yourself isn’t evidence. Testari exists to be the witness that no party owns.
What we've built
Honest about the capability.
- Independent attestation already operating on live institutional decisions today — the core capability is real and running.
- Hardware-rooted, tamper-evident records — encrypted-silicon integrity, counterparty-verifiable.
- Active development toward the two markets where independent evidence is worth the most: physical AI and insurance.
The stage
Early-stage and honest about it — the capability is live, the frontier markets are ahead. We name the markets we serve, never customers we haven’t earned; specifics are shared under evaluation. No fabricated logos, metrics, or certifications.
